Community Health Center, Inc. And Weitzman Institute Celebrate Ten Years of Project ECHO®

Community Health Center, Inc. (CHC) and its Weitzman Institute (WI) are celebrating ten years of leading Project ECHO sessions, producing more than 1500 ECHO sessions for over 7,500 providers from every state in the nation, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam

Project ECHO uses teleconferencing and case-based learning to expand access to specialty care for underserved patients by helping primary care teams manage cases that would otherwise be referred out to specialists. Topic areas have included Hepatitis C, HIV, Pain, Buprenorphine, LGBT Health, Complex Integrated Pediatrics, and COVID, with new topics coming soon.

CHC Founder and President, Mark Masselli noted, “Project ECHO was started by Dr. Sanjeev Arora, whom we thank, at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center to meet the needs of patients with limited access to specialists. It has been a problem for patients across Connecticut and for partner organizations around the country.  The COVID pandemic has exacerbated this problem and I am grateful to the Weitzman staff and the specialists who have participated.”

April Joy Damian, PhD, MSc, CHPM, PMP, Vice President and Director of the Weitzman Institute adds, “The Weitzman Institute has always been committed to innovations in primary health care and training providers in primary care delivery system transformation.  Project ECHO has been a cornerstone in our work to help health care systems across the country.”

The Weitzman Institute continues to expand Project ECHO offerings, with new clinics being added regularly.  Additional information about Project ECHO can be found on the Weitzman Institute website at weitzmaninstitute.org/weitzman-echo-celebrates-10-years.
