Community Health Center and its Weitzman Institute Receive Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education Status

Joint Accreditation leads to better patient outcomes

Community Health Center, Inc. (CHC) and its Weitzman Institute, national leaders in educating high-performing primary care teams, has received Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education™. This designation confers simultaneous accreditation in nine national accrediting bodies. The Weitzman Institute will now have the ability to award interprofessional continuing education credit to a wide array of health professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, nurses, psychologists, dentists, dietitians and social workers.

Joint Accreditation promotes activities specifically designed to enhance interprofessional collaborative practice and improve patient care. It signifies to clinicians and care team members that continuing healthcare education activities meet the high standard needed for interprofessional care today. The designation means CHC/Weitzman Institute is now recognized as part of a group of leading organizations across the United States—including major medical schools, national medical associations, hospitals and other medical education organizations—that have been awarded this accreditation status.

CHC is the first Federally Qualified Health Center in the United States to be awarded Joint Accreditation, further solidifying its leadership role in offering education to health care providers caring for the nation’s most vulnerable patient populations. CHC and Weitzman offer weekly web-based trainings through Weitzman ECHO, webinars, and learning collaboratives, in which thousands of clinicians and health care staff have participated from all 50 states and abroad.

“CHC and the Weitzman Institute have a long history promoting innovation in healthcare in safety net institutions across the country. This recognition for our educational programs enables us to further help organizations ensure that high quality interprofessional health care is available and accessible to populations most in need,” said Daren Anderson, MD, Director of the Weitzman Institute.

According to Mark Masselli, Founder/CEO of Community Health Center, Inc., “During this tumultuous time in history, when our front line professionals are being asked to handle so many challenges, this designation will allow us to bring vital support to strengthen their work and service.”
